P.E.A.C.E. Project (Prevention Education and Creative Expression), is a collaboration between Northland Family Help Center and Theatrikos Theatre Company. The project is designed to use theatre arts alongside peer education as a means to address teen relationship violence, acts of violence in our communities and other related issues that affect young people today.
P.E.A.C.E. Project is a traveling troupe of over 25 northern Arizona young people. P.E.A.C.E. Project has performed for schools, organizations, universities, conferences, detention centers, health & social services as well as many community events.
Since it's formation in 1998, P.E.A.C.E. Project has reached over 8,000 people with original student written scripts tailored performances depending on topics requested. Performance lengths range from 15 to 90 minutes with a Q & A session at the end of every performance to answer questions, discuss the issues presented and local resources.
P.E.A.C.E. Project performers and volunteers receive over 100 hours of training on issues of relationship violence, date/acquanintance rape, self-abuse, healthy relationships, sexual harassment and non-violent communication. In addition, Project members are taughtbasic skills in crisis invention, reflective listening, facilitating discussion and making appropriate referrals to community resources. Through this training members seem to transform. Undoing the stereotypes and myths that are ingrained in our culture is a challenging prospect but P.E.A.C.E. Project members learn how to inspire change within themselves and others.
